The animations of Orangutans used by the guide are intended to help make learning about energy fun. We are careful not to use Orang as an abbreviation for Orangutan as this is culturally insensitive.

Helping you to reduce your energy bill
There are many ways to reduce your energy bill at home. Some require an upfront investment and some simply need you to change your daily routine.
Orang has an energy savings calculator that estimates ballpark savings and upfront costs. The calculator also links to educational guides explaining what to expect if you were to make a big change, such as installing a heat pump.
One way to get a more accurate estimate of costs & savings is to ask a skilled professional to visit your home and to design a solution specifically for your home. To help you find a skilled professional, Orang has a comprehensive list of MCS qualified installers in the UK.
How to use the energy savings calculator
To use the energy savings calculator, first enter your address. You will see a picture of your home from Google Street.
If your property has an EPC, we use it to automatically import details about your property. This currently works only for properties in England and Wales.
You will then be asked to enter other details about your home: insulation; heating system and your daily routine. These details are saved in your browser for later.
After the setup is complete, the fun begins. You can explore the savings you’d achieve with new insulation, a heat pump etc. You can also see how different changes interact with each other.
How to use the installer finder
Once you’ve entered the address of the property, you can see a list of MCS qualified installers nearby. You can filter the list by distance from your property, the type of training installers have received and the manufacturers they work with.
To see contact details for an installer, click on their name to open their profile.

We want Orang to be used by people from all walks of life. For this to happen, the guide must be trustworthy. To build trust, we will strive to tell the truth. So, if for some properties, gas boilers cost less to run than heat pumps, then the Orang energy savings calculator will show that.
